2016: A year of wedding photography in Scotland

2016 has, quite simply, been off the scale. I spent a good few hours today going through each and every wedding I've photographed this year and I became emotionally involved all over again. I witnessed so much love and laughter and oh so many friendships. I heard beautiful stories about the lives of people I barely knew. I laughed and I cried many times. My heart overwhelmed with emotion. And best of all, I get to stand there and capture those very moments. Because I'm not just a photographer, I'm a human being and it's impossible for your fabulous days not to affect me.

I have been incredibly lucky to have joined so many of you at some of the most beautiful places across Scotland including Kinkell Byre, Kirknewton Stables, Glenfinnan House Hotel, Killearn Village Hall, Ardoch, Aberdour Castle, Loch Lomond Arms Hotel, Pollokshields Burgh Hall, Solsgirth House, Doune Castle and many more.

Thank you so much to all my brides and grooms for letting me into your lives to capture your amazing days, for believing in me and for giving me so much to capture to enable me to tell your stories.

I give you a glimpse of what 2016 looked like from where I was standing.

Scotland Wedding, St Andrews in the Square, Glasgow

After a week of gale force winds and torrential rain, Saturday's weather with its blue skies and sunshine was very welcome. Lynsey and Colin were married at the stunning St Andrews in the Square, a perfect location for a wee walkabout in the afternoon too around the streets of Merchant City in Glasgow.

They both kept telling me how much better they felt about being photographed on their wedding day, which was just lovely to hear. They were so relaxed and the whole day was just lovely, amazing to be a part of it.

So without further ado, here is a small sneak peek from throughout the day for you all to enjoy.

Scotland Wedding: Abode Hotel & National Piping Centre, Glasgow

As weddings go, this was quite possibly the wettest one I've ever experienced. But that didn't dampen spirits. With a 'let's get out there' attitude, I hit the streets of the Merchant City in Glasgow with Christine and Pally armed only with a couple of umbrellas and some sheer determination!

Glasgow is such an urban oasis with so many exciting parts to it, I could literally spend an entire week taking photos there. And what better way to start this wedding than at Abode Glasgow with its ceramic tiles and old fashioned lift, it was like stepping into the 50s, what an amazing space with stunning light, perfect for hair and make up to transform Christine into a bride. Linda from Linda Arbuckle MUA and Annette from Frizz Free Hair did a fantastic job. Christine brought her monkeys all the way from Canada to guard the rings, safe to say they did a good job too. And the talented Amanda from The Floral Design Boutique created Christine's colourful bouquet.

Time to let the pictures speak for themselves, here is a sneak peek for you all to enjoy!

Scotland Wedding: Gleddoch House Hotel, Langbank

I don't know how we managed to dodge the (extremely heavy) showers, but we did. We even got our own chauffeur to drive us in a golf buggy to take us wherever we wanted to go, awesome! So much fun exploring the grounds of Gleddoch House Hotel with Lorna and Billy who just took the whole day in their stride.

Here is a small sneak peek for you all to enjoy.

Scotland Wedding Elopement, Luss, Loch Lomond

As far as elopements go, this was a belter! Since 2008, Cheryl and David have been visiting Scotland all the way from Australia and taking tours with Craig from Mini Tours Scotland. Their ancestors are from Ayrshire and the surrounding areas of Glasgow and so it was befitting that they chose to get married here after being together for over 20 years.

Cheryl's mum also flew over to give Cheryl away. With just the four of them, myself and the celebrant, they were married at the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel in Luss. After the wedding, we all had lunch together due to the heavy showers outside. We then went for a walk around Luss taking photos along the way before returning for coffee. The perfect day spent with amazing people.
